  Wildlife

Birds: Questions about birds? Diana Shaffer at Wildlife Resqu Haus is our best resource for bird questions and rehabilitation of injured birds.  Wildlife Resqu Haus also has an "adoption" program that helps rehabilitating wild birds. Contact her at:  Wildlife Resqu Haus, 11100 W S.R. 32, Yorktown, IN 47396.  Her phone number is (765) 759-9112.
Small mammals: Rabbits are Tony Smith's specialty, but we refer to him with questions  about all small mammals.  Tony is located in Cambridge City.  Contact him at:  (765) 478-5325.
DNR Hotline:  Can't find a rehabilitator in your area?  The best place to call is DNR's hotline-
they can direct you to a certified rehabilitator.  Contact them at: (800) 893-4116.
Animal Removal:  If you are in need of animal removal services, please contact Tri-County Pest Control and Wildlife Services.  They will follow your wishes for removal and are experienced in live trapping of a wide variety of animals.  Contact them at:  (765) 965-1900.
Plant and pest identification resources:  For help with plant and pest identification,
we recommend visiting the Purdue Plant & Pest Diagnostics Laboratory website.

  Resource Protection

Conservation easements and permanent protection:  How to best protect your land and care for it can be a web of legal language, agreements and lengthy management plans. There are organizations specifically set up to handle conservation easements and other ways to permanently protect land, such as the Red-tail Conservancy or Whitewater Valley Land Trust (4910 Shoemaker Rd., Centerville, IN 47330).
Recycling, Reusing & Disposal: Waste-not.org is a web site setup and updated by the Conservation Education Coordinator at the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation District. The purpose of the site is to provide information for the people in Wayne and Union Counties regarding waste disposal, recycling, conservation, and local resources.
Proper Medicine DisposalDisposing of medicine improperly can lead to a whole host of problems for our water!  Do the right thing and return unused or expired meds to Phillip's Drugs (Richmond, IN) for collection and proper disposal.  Thank you to Phillip's Drugs for researching and implementing this green initiative!  (Visit www.PhillipsDrugs.com or call 765-966-5544 for information)

  Community Sustainability

CLEAN Community:  The City of Richmond, working through the Richmond Wayne County Environmental Awareness Council, has developed a Quality of Life Plan (QLP). It is similar in concept to an environmental management program (ISO: 14000) used by many businesses. CLEAN actions are in keeping with the sustainability commitments of the Strategic Plan.  Read more...
Richmond-Wayne County Environmental Awareness Council:  The Richmond-Wayne County, Indiana Environmental Awareness Council is comprised of city employees and officials, business owners, educators, community leaders, and other local citizens. The group meets regularly to discuss and plan issues and initiatives related to the quality of life in Richmond, particularly with regard to impact on the environment..  Visit the RWEAC's website for more information and to see WCTV's Environmentally Speaking episodes hosted by CEC's own Stephanie Hays-Mussoni.  Click here for fuel-saving tips from Stephanie's latest "Environmentally Speaking" t.v. show with Wetzel Family Auto!
Progressive Richmond-Wayne County, Indiana:  A great web resource for all things sustainable in our region.  Find local food guides, forums, event listings, new releases and more at www.ProgressiveWayneCounty.org.
The Smart Living Project:  The Smart Living Project is a non-profit sustainable living education organization, located in Muncie, Indiana. They strive to provide positive, straight-forward sustainable living resources with local relevance and a global focus. www.SmartLivingProject.org.

  Personal Sustainability

What is your carbon footprint?  Follow the link below to the Nature Conservancy's Carbon Footprint Calculator.  This short test will measure your approximate carbon footprint (in tons per year) using data from your life including food and travel, home energy, recycling and more.  http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/calculator/
Look for the label:  The Energy Star program makes it easy for consumers to find great energy efficient products when shopping.  Simply look for this blue logo especially when searching for new appliances.  Also, there are many great tax credits available for those who purchase energy efficient appliances, home improvement supplies, even cars!  Check out this website for more information on federal credits and rebates: http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=products.pr_tax_credits.
CEC Sustainable Living Demo Home Tours:  Tours of the CEC Sustainable Living Demonstration Home will be led by Facility and Grounds Director, Jeremy Mussoni, on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 4:00. The fee for these tours is $5.00 per person.  Learn more about these tours and the demo home by clicking here.
Eat local:  The average mouthful of food travels 1,300 before making it to your plate.  Eating local foods is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint and it just tastes better!  Check out the local food guide for options in our area (compliments of www.ProgressiveWayneCounty.org)
